About Nicholas Roy, DMD

Dr. Nicholas Roy is a native of Lewiston, Maine, where he spent his early years engaged in sports such as hockey, running, and track and field. He pursued his undergraduate education at the University of Vermont (UVM), earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine—recognized as one of the nation’s leading dental schools. His time there proved to be an enriching journey, filled with valuable experiences that broadened his clinical expertise.

While in dental school, Dr. Roy developed a strong interest in comprehensive care—a treatment philosophy that focuses on evaluating the mouth as a whole, along with its relationship to a patient’s systemic health. Motivated to serve individuals with complex dental concerns, he went on to complete an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program in Richmond, Virginia. This advanced training equipped him with the confidence and capability to perform a wide range of procedures, including dental implant placement, full mouth rehabilitation, sedation dentistry, and advanced surgical techniques.

Dr. Roy eventually returned to Maine to serve his local community through work at a public health center. This role allowed him to give back meaningfully while thoughtfully considering where he would establish his long-term practice. A chance encounter led him to join Dr. Wayne Lopez and Dr. Jin Hwang. Dr. Lopez had built an extensive patient base in Gorham in the 1970s-1990s. Dr. Lopez moved his practice to Buxton in 1999, into a house built in 1812. Although this house was excellent for a dentist in the final years of their career, it could not support the efficient and comprehensive care Dr. Roy envisioned for his patients. He acquired the practice in 2013 and began to craft the practice of his dreams.

Dr. Roy is deeply committed to continuing eduction and professional development in the field of dentistry. He actively maintains membership in several esteemed dental organizations, including the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), the Maine Academy of General Dentistry (ME AGD), the American Dental Association (ADA), and the Maine Dental Association (MDA). One of his most notable accomplishments is earning the distinguished Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD)—an honor achieved by fewer than 1% of general dentists nationwide. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Roy shares his expertise by presenting at local dental conferences and has been a featured guest on one of the most prominent dental podcasts in the world, where he spoke about his enthusiasm for dental adhesives and the importance of lifelong continuing education. Additionally, Dr. Roy possesses a particular passion for the field of dental sleep medicine and sleep apnea treatment, which has led to him being named a Qualified Dentist by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM).
